I have now had my remote start for 2 months. I decided to go with Mazda so that nothing would happen to void my warranty as my vehicle was purchased new in July. To start with, I was prepared to have just your regular run of the mill fob remote start. However, just a couple of hours after dropping my vehicle off, the service specialist called to tell me that Mazda has the app remote start and that I would be able to adjust the temp, turn on seat heaters, etc. As it would turn out this is not true, so that tells me that Mazda doesnt make sure that their service people are adequately trained as to what the app could and could not do. Every tech should be able to view/access this app so they can accurately recommend it to their customers. Secondly, this app can turn on the rear defrost so that automatically tells me that if Mazda were interested in being competitive they would have this service performing at its maximum by allowing the adjustment of temp, front defrost, seat heaters, etc. I know for a fact if you can turn on one feature, the ability to turn on/adjust them all is there, Mazda has just elected not to have an app/service performing at its best. Secondly, I went and picked up my vehicle after installation and got it home to discover that the remote start would not work. It kept telling me the hood was up. I took it back to the dealership the next day and fortunately it was a simple adjustment of a hood pin. This situation would have been avoidable if Mazda, once again, were interested in a competitive service. All that would be required is a test app for the service technician. Then they could test the app before ever handing the vehicle back over to its owner. Mazda neednt try to say this is a bad idea because in this day and age of computers, a pro doesnt need an app to hack into your cars computer and do whatever. Thirdly, there are times when the party responsible for the servers that the software connects to are obviously not worried about the reflection of their service, not only on themselves, but on Mazda as well. When its freezing or below outside, I dont want a message saying that servers are not reachable. I have read on other reviews that this happened last winter and that they were given extra time to use the app without paying. I dont want extra time without paying. I want my vehicle to start. I leave for work at 0530 and in the middle of winter all I want is defrosted windows, a warm seat and a warm car. So far, I have had this happen only once, but it has been a very mild winter so far. After paying almost a thousand bucks for this service, I expect it to perform. All this being said, Im not sure I would have chosen the app since I have to remember to turn everything on and adjust it the night before anyway. I live in a third floor apt so going out to start my vehicle on freezing mornings became a deal breaker at this point in my life. Im glad that I have it but I hope Mazda considers upgrading it and making their existing customers happy and their future customers ecstatic that they chose the service.
